From Fukuoka to Estonia: Creating Experiences Beyond Food
A story of persistence, culture, and building something that lasts
03.03.2026
Shintaro Takakura grew up in Fukuoka — a city known for its ramen and vibrant street food culture. There, food is never just about eating; it is about gathering, talking, and connecting. That early experience shaped his understanding that hospitality is not only about taste, but about atmosphere.
When he moved to Estonia, he carried that feeling with him. His goal was not simply to open Japanese restaurants, but to recreate the social energy and warmth he had known back home. What began as an idea gradually became a business built on consistency, discipline, and respect for culture.
This is a story about starting from zero in a new country, overcoming language and cultural barriers, and growing through both success and failure. It is also about balance — drawing strength from martial arts, family, and the belief that true success comes not from quick wins, but from long-term commitment and continuous improvement.
Tell us about yourself, about your business. Where did the path begin?
I grew up in Fukuoka, a city famous for ramen and street food culture. Food there is very casual and social. People eat, talk, and connect.
When I moved to Estonia, I wanted to recreate that atmosphere. Not only Japanese food, but the feeling around it.
That idea became the starting point of my business.
In any business there are turning points. What were yours?
Opening the first restaurant was a big moment. Seeing people enjoy something from my hometown made me realize the idea could work.
Another important turning point was going through difficult periods such as the pandemic. Those times forced us to adapt and become stronger. Business is often about surviving long enough to improve
How do you get ideas, what inspires you?
Ideas often come from everyday life.
But sports are also a big influence. I practice Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Martial arts teach patience and discipline, and they also clear the mind. Sometimes the best business ideas appear after training.
Favorite books (movies, celebrities)?
I am interested in people who build things over many years. Entrepreneurs, athletes, or anyone who continues improving over time.
Quick success stories are less interesting to me.
How can you describe yourself in a few words?
Curious. Persistent. Calm under pressure.
Describe your biggest achievement and most impressive failure?
My biggest achievement is building a business in another country and creating a team.
Failures usually came when I underestimated how difficult something would be. But those experiences become the best teachers.
Have you ever crossed your principles in your professional activity?
I try not to cross my principles. Business sometimes requires flexibility, but honesty and respect should stay.
What is happening at the moment with your business? What are your plans?
Right now we are strengthening our current restaurants and preparing new concepts.
I am also interested in introducing Japanese culture that people in Europe may not know yet. Not only food, but the atmosphere around it.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Training martial arts and spending time with my family.
How did you get your first success?
Step by step. In Japanese we say “continuation becomes strength.”
Consistency is more powerful than talent in the long run.
What was the most difficult for you?
Building a business while learning a new language and culture at the same time.
Do you have your own motto, mission?
Our philosophy is to create experiences that go beyond language through food and culture.
What would you never do in your life?
Stop challenging myself.
What do you dream about?
My dream is connected to our philosophy: building something that lasts and creates opportunities for people.
What disturbs you in life, and what helps?
Responsibility can be heavy sometimes, but routine, sports, and family keep me balanced.
